US DEVELOPMENTS – MARCH 2009
Attached please find the latest monthly report from the Chamber of Shipping of America.
The report covers, inter alia:
- An update on the US/Canada proposal to IMO MEPC 59 to establish an Emissions Control Area 200 miles from the coastline of the United States and Canada, as also reported in MC(09)44.
- A summary of a recent meeting between industry representatives, environmental NGOs and Congressional representatives, which produced further initiatives on the Vessel General Permit. Pending litigation and legislative options are also discussed.
- A summary of key issues and next steps with regards to the implementation of the new Salvage and Marine Firefighting regulations, following discussions between industry and USCG.
- An update of Seasonal Management Areas, which form part of the NOAA North Atlantic Ship Strike Avoidance Program.
